Weekend Fixtures - 23rd Sept 2009

Weekend Results - 23rd Sept 2009
Portumna seniors qualified for the league semi-final with a 4-24 to 4-12 of Gort on Tuesday 15th. To see last weekends senior huerling results click on the [championship] link.
Weekend Results - 14th Sept 2009
Portumna defeated St. Thomas' by 5-13 to 0-12 to qualify for the quarter final stage of the senior hurling championship on Saturday. The goals were scored by Joe Canning (2), Martin Dolphin, Damien Hayes and Niall Hayes. The team was as follows: Ivan Canning, Aidan O Donnell, Eugene McEntee, Ollie Canning, Gareth Heagney, Micheal Ryan, Peter Smith, Leo Smith, Eoin Lynch, Damien Hayes, Niall Hayes, Andrew Smith, Ciaran Ryan, Joe Canning, Martin Dolphin. SHC Preliminary Quarter Finals - 8th Sept 2009

The senior hurlers will play their preliminary quarter final against St. Thomas on the weekend of Sept 12/13. They also play Gort in their final qualifying league game this evening at 7pm in Gort - good luck to all involved. The junior A hurlers were defeated by 1-10 to 0-7 yesterday in Ballinasloe
in their preliminary quarter final.

The car draw will take place on Friday 24th July in O Meara's Portumna. Ticket should be returned to Celia Keane as soon as possible. Portumna GAA Club would like to wish the Galway hurlers good luck in their qualifier against Cork this evening in Thurles at 7pm. The Junior B hurlers defeated Ballindereen by 1 point last night, to make it 2 wins from 2 this week after their 4-14 to 0-08 defeat of Annaghdown on Wednesday.
Results - 16 July 2009
The Junior A hurlers defeated Ballinasloe by 0-14 to 0-10 on Sunday. They have now two draws and one win in their group. The seniors defeated Carnmore by 1-18 to 2-07 in a senior league game on Monday evening.

Portumna seniors made it three wins from three by defeating Beagh 3-13 to 1-10 yesterday in Loughrea. The team was Ivan Canning, Gareth Heagney, Eugene McEntee, Aidan O Donnell, Eoin Lynch, Micheal Ryan, Leo Smith, Ciaran Ryan, David Canning, Andrew Smith, Kevin Hayes, Niall Hayes, Damien Hayes, Joe Canning, Ollie Canning. Fixtures - 04 June 2009

Medal Presentation - 04 June 2009
Congratulations to members of the victorious Senior/U21 B/Junior C/Junior Camogie teams who all collected medals at the presentation night on Sunday in the Shannon Oaks.
To see photos of the event [click here]. Portumna GAA would like to thank the special guest of honour Nicky Brennan, MC Sean Walsh and Gerry Larkin (Chairman of County Board). The player of the year awards went as follows: Senior: Damien Hayes and Ollie Canning, Junior A: Pierce Treacy, U21: John O Flaherty, Junior C: Alan Gorman, Minor: Colin Leahy, Camogie: Mary Burke. There were also presentations
made to the players who represented Galway last year. These were: Martin Dolphin (Minor), Ollie Canning, Damien Hayes, Joe Canning, Eoin Lynch, Kevin Hayes, Andrew Smith (All Senior). There was a presentation made to John Muldoon for recognition of his first senior Irish Rugby cap. John is currently touring with the Irish squad in the USA for the Churchill Cup so his mother Claire picked up the award for him. Celia Keane picked up the Club Person of the Year award.
Results - 04 June 2009
The junior A hurlers played out a 0-13 to 0-13 draw with Sarsfields on Firday evening in Loughrea. This leaves them with two draws after two games. The Junior B hurlers narrowly lost their first game of the championship. The were defeated 5-05 to 2-16 after a late spirited comeback.
Medal Presentation - 31 May 2009
The presentation of medals for the victorious Senior, U21, Junior C hurlers and the Junior Camogie team will take place this Sunday evening at 8pm sharp in the Shannon Oaks Hotel Portumna.
Entrance on the night is free of charge and all are welcome. The guest of honour is former President of the GAA Nicky Brennan.
Galway v Laois - 31 May 2009
Best of luck to the Galway hurlers who play Laois in their first game in the Leinster Championship in Portlaois on Sunday. In particular we would like to wish Ollie Canning, Andrew Smith, Kevin Hayes, Joe Canning, Damien Hayes, Eoin Lynch, Eugene McEntee, and Niall Hayes well.

The senior hurlers made it two wins from two after a 3-15 to 1-06 defeat of Tommie Larkins yesterday in Killimor. The goals were scored by Joe Canning, Niall Hayes and Damien Hayes. 125 Years of the GAA - 11 May 2009

Senior Hurling Championship - 4 May 2009
The senior hurlers defeated Athenry by 3-10 to 2-08 in their first championship game of 2008. Damien Hayes scored all three of the goals. A group of 25 consisting of the senior hurlers and management team will fly out to Abu Dhabi tomorrow (Thurs 23rd) as the prize for winning the Etihad Best Club Under the Sun Competition.
U21 Hurling - 22 April 2009
The U21 had a 0-15 to 0-11 last Friday evening against Mullagh. This qualifies them to the knock-out stages after an earlier victory over Turloughmore and a 4 point loss to Gort.
Senior Hurling League - 22 April 2009
The senior hurlers have played three games in the '09 senior league. A 1-11 to 1-09 victory over Sarsfields, was followed by two hard-earned draws against Mullagh and St. Thomas.

Congratulations to the senior hurlers who won their third Club Al-Ireland title in four years with a comprehensive 2-24 to 1-08 over De La Salle of Waterford. I will be putting up photgraphs of the day shortly..
All Ireland Semi-Final - 27th Feb 2008
Congratulations to the senior hurlers who defeated Ballyhale Shamrocks by 5-11 to 1-16 in Thurles on Sunday. Click here to see [photos]. More to follow. Scorers: Joe Canning 2-5, Damien Hayes 2-1, Ciar�n Ryan 1-0, Andrew Smith 0-2, Kevin Hayes 0-2, Niall Hayes 0-1. They now face De La Salle of Waterford in the All-Ireland final on 17th March. De La Salle defeated Cushendall 1-21 to 1-19 after extra-time.

County Champions 2008 - 7th Nov 2008

Etihad Best Club Under the Sun Competition - 23rd September 2008
Congratulations to Portumna GAA Club on winning the Etihad Best Club under the Sun competition. The club wins a trip for 25 people to a 4-day trainng camp in Abu Dhabi courtesy of Etihad Airlines. The club would like to thank everyone who took the time to vote for us in this competition.
